I write lots of online content every week. Job ads; HTML mailers; web pages; banners etc. for a whole range of businesses. Sadly though, it's becoming increasingly rare to get a nice juicy press ad to write copy for.
Technology's great - there's no denying the ease with which anyone can get something 'live' on the web at the touch of a button. The problem is it has, in many instances, particularly when it comes to recruitment, led to a certain degree of laziness and a decline in creativity.
In the greater scheme of things, taking the time to craft your message, or investing in getting you copy written professionally is a small price to pay compared to the return that getting the right people on board or selling more of your services or products brings.
And yet, so many people seem content to cut and paste content and put out bland, uninspiring ads, only to later moan about poor response.
Human beings are led by their emotions, whether it's buying a car, choosing a holiday or making countless other decisions to buy, or apply. First impressions really do count. Each and every piece of advertising or marketing material you put out there is making a statement about your company. It really is the difference between success and failure. In short, you are what you write.
